Many times we get a customer with non functioning Mac or PC Laptop with these issues where after a liquid spill, they would wipe it off and then try to power it up right away which guarantees that it will further damage it and will not work. Liquid with electrical circuit is like gas with fire. Things to do in such a situation is as below.
- Disconnect the Power adapter immediately and if battery is removable then remove that too. If battery is not removable, then try to contact someone who can help you remove it as soon as possible.
- If liquid spill is on keyboard, then immediately turn it up side down while leaving the screen open to drain the liquid by gravity. Take 4-5 layers of Paper Towels, put them on keyboard, still keeping it upside down and let it absorb & dry as much liquid as possible.
- If you suspect liquid has gone on the side or the back portion of the laptop, do same process for that side too.
- If liquid was simple water then give it at least 36-48 hours in dry place to let it completely evaporate and then try powering it up. If liquid is coffee or tea, soda or wine then it is best taken to a repair facility where they can dismantle it, make sure everything is cleaned & dry before powering it up.
Many times we have observed that customers come with the complain that after such an incident, it worked for a while and then stopped. Reason being, sugary liquids not cleaned properly, would result in to corrosion of circuit board tracks & components and failing in few days, weeks or months.
